BigAppleachia is a traditional five-piece acoustic bluegrass band based in New York City. The band consists of very talented, and experienced, traditional bluegrass singers and musicians encompassing over one hundred years combined playing experience! All five members have honed their skills in other bands, locally and nationally. Over the decades they have built strong personal, and musical, friendships around countless "all night" bluegrass festival campfires, countrywide! Their desire is to bring the traditional, hard driving, soulful sound of bluegrass music to the urban audience…to those that are yet uninitiated into "roots" acoustic music as well as the veteran bluegrass fan. Their music is not for the faint of heart. It’s a hard-edged sound that penetrates the soul. It’s the sounds of the Stanley Brothers, Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, Jimmy Martin, the pioneers of the Bluegrass music. Bluegrass, a style of music so highly popularized of late by the Coen Brothers hit film, "O Brother, Where Art Thou." (The soundtrack has sold over 4 million copies!). While the band plays highly structured material with complex vocal harmonies and incredible, driving instrumentals, they bring a unique "Jam Band" twist to the music.

Improvising comes naturally after having played around hundreds of all night campfires together through twenty-five years of bluegrass festivals. This unique combination of structure and spontaneity make for an ever changing, evolving, exciting and unique show experience
